Insanely large rosters

As we sit and complain, and sometimes mark out, but more often complain about our favorite past time... Wrestling.. I really looked at things in perspective tonight and it's amazing how much waste their is.

TNA:
Roster: 54
Non-Wrestlers/On air talent: 7
Wrestlers: 47

WWE:
Roster: 132
No Wrestlers/On Air Talent: 24
Wrestlers: 66
Developmental Wrestlers: 42

This is insane.. Both companies waste talent to a degree that on average more than 1/2 the roster never makes it to TV on a weekly basis, and a good chunk never see TV time for weeks to months on end. TNA is still actively signing people one week and they're not on TV the next.

WWE hoards talent like a 12 year old collecting baseball cards, yet not a single person in over a year not named Cena or Punk has been given a chance to carry the belt. Did you know The Funkasaurus debuted on Jan 9th?? Can you name one angle he's been involved in? EIGHT MONTHS OF JUST DANCING AND NOTHING ELSE!!!! Did you know Lord Tensai debuted in March.. Can you name ONE angle he's been in?? FIVE MONTHS OF BREATHING THROUGH HIS TEETH!! How do they survive? I rip WWE constantly but it's because of shit like this.. How does one entire storyline develop during 3 hours of RAW when you have a roster this size with about 15% of it being used in some sort of legitimate degree?

I will cut TNA a slight break on the fact lately they seem to be trying to utilize too much of the roster as the show is just crammed with story after story and gets confusing.. They need to start trimming the old fat and using the younger meat because they still have way too much talent then they know what to actually do with.

What I find most interesting is that TNA has more than 2/3 the roster of WWE (not counting developmental) despite having 1/3 the TV time. Weird.

I don't really have a problem with the big rosters. My reasons include:

- I like to see workers get paydays.
- While we bitch about seeing the same people every week, there are only so many people that are over and there is only so much time per TV. You need to have enhancement. You need to have people ready to step in, in the event of an injury or wellness infraction. It's also kinda like rotating records on a radio station in that you want to spin your top records as much as you can without burn. I think TNA is doing a good job at this in that their top guys are on week to week, but between BFG and the rest of the undercard we're seeing stuff that we haven't seen a million times or at least in a different context.
- IMO, you need to overstock developmental. A small fraction of that talent is gonna make the main roster. I also think that once some of the FCW talent is ready to be called up to the main roster, there's gonna be a shit-ton of future endeavoring on the WWE undercard on the main.
- Could WWE use its roster better? Two answers: Yes and fuck yes. They have 3 hours on Monday to kill. Why not throw some matches together with some of the guys on the lower end of the card in that first hour. God forbid someone else gets over.
- Another thing that would better utilize the rosters is mandatory off time. Example: Do an injury angle. Have the worker kayfabe it in public. Eventually do vignettes of the recovery process so the people don't forget about them. This would be perfect for Cena. He can sell with his arm in a sling and still do his Make A Wish commitments. The aspect of Jericho's deal where he's not gonna be there every night for 2 years keeps him fresh.
