Verbaltoxin/Lingualvenom: Also someone wouldn't happen to have any Nick Bockwinkel stories, would they? I've dealt with Mr. Bockwinkel on several occasions from my MAW and radio days. We had Nick for a few shows as an attraction. It was amazing when he would walk into the locker room. You knew he was there. He just walked in. All the boys would stand up out of respect, and Nick would go through the entire locker room and shake each and everyone's hand saying, "Hi. I'm Nick Bockwinkel. Pleased to meet you." He'd go through and give everyone the same respect whether you were ring crew or in the main or if he recognized you. I might have shared this over on the mainland a while back, but I like to type when I'm drunk. I interviewed him once as a favor to the promoter. It was a Saturday night and I was doing 7-Midnight on an alternative station circa late '90's. Nick was appearing at the next week's show. I know it seems like an odd combination having a legend on a Saturday night on an alt but Milwaukee has always been a good wrestling town and we love the AWA guys. Hell, Jake Milliman is a draw, but that's probably because he brings in a bunch of his biker pals. Anyways, Nick calls and the plan was to record the interview so I can edit it down to 2-3 minutes. It's not difficult to edit a 10 minute chunk of audio down to that when you know what you're doing. I know Nick's verbal stylings so I think I got this in the bag. We start the interview. I was on the air but in the middle of a big music sweep where I don't have to go on the air live for 20 minutes. I have time to do 10 minutes and chop it up to the desired length. We're going, talking about some of the old matches and his history in Milwaukee. All is going great even though I feel like a drooling mark talking to one of my wrestling gods. Now keep in mind this is the late 90's. We used to tape phoners on reel-to-reel. But we had this stand alone hard drive recorder called the Shortcut. It was great. Easy editing. No cut and splice. Gigged many a finger with the splicing blade. But remember the time, and other jocks warehousing phoners. I ran out of hard drive. My heart sank so far it was in my scrotum. After Nick finished his response, I told him about the problem. I asked him if he could stick around and do the interview live. He agreed. We chatted off the air about various things and called the live interview as he'd talk about his Milwaukee AWA memories and plug his appearance. Do 2 or 3 minutes. We go live. We talk. When I thought we were about 3 minutes in I looked at the timer and saw we were 8 minutes in! Wrapped things up for a total of about 10. I just about shat myself. Remember, this is a music station on a Saturday night! I get back into music and thank Nick for his patience and make the remark that we went longer than I thought we did. He said, "Eddie, my boy, ask me what time it is and I'll tell you how to build a watch." /csb

Anytime. The pleasure was mine. Nick Bockwinkel is on my short list of top workers. Never had the same match twice. So fluid in the ring. Great promos. I even liked him when he was a heel and I was a young mark.
