I get the strange feeling we now know who has been sending complaints about content of the wrestling thread. Wait, someone has been actively complaining about the wrestling thread? Who? GD? Can't be sure someone really was, but I was told that the actions against us in the thread were not because a mod was following us or looking for it, implying someone had complained. And, frankly, there are a few of the less active posters who are wrestling fans who are kind of dicks in other threads so it could be them, But I would think it's a lot more likely the complaints, if they really existed, came from someone who was part of her clique than a random user. |

Probably one of the anti OT nazi "n00bs" who always feel it necessary to throw in a snide comment about how much nicer it is now that every comment goosesteps in perfect formation behind the last. IT'S AN INSIDE JOB!!!! Meh, fuck it anyway. I like this board. Conversations ebb and flow and occasionally digress. It's much more natural that way IMHO. |

So I recently re-read the thread where she admitted she had a yellowhaired alt account. I had forgotten about that and it amused me greatly that the reason she had that alt was because she didn't want her pics on the site as she didn't think she was as pretty as the girl in her alt account pic. Then i found out she's been a cam girl for a few years. I don't see how she got away with everything as long as she did.
Yes, I am pretty bored at 1 in the morning.

I guarantee you that her behavior contributed to the second, and while her threads may get clicks, they cost Drew users. Most people know how to find pics of actually attractive naked women on the net without being spoonfed by a sub-par stripper with a drinking problem and a penchant for committing fraud. |

The problem is that the mods are also deleting a ton of shit and people not on Twitter don't even know what's going on.
And, he's also right that the majority of the bullshit is a handful of posters that have Alt's and are mods or have mod protection. They do shit to drive pageviews, with no though about long term effects/users who leave. I also wonder what percentage of the pageviews are from a core of 50-100 users involved in the bullshit.

I just saw the screenshot myself and he's 100000% on the money. The only area where I enjoy conversation is the Sports tab because 95% of the talk in there is somewhat intelligent. I would love to be in the other threads discussing things, but it's such a derp fest that it's not worth it. Even TF Discussion is a flaming pile of shit.

There was no way in hell that we were alone in our thoughts there. I think it was something that was brewing for a little while and finally enough was enough. GD was the most glaring example of this for us, but there were others who had their own examples as well. Fark surviving Digg? Buddy, let me tell you something: Digg fucked themselves. Did you hear that they were brought out the week before last for the massive sum of $500,000? And no, I didn't forget a zero. And how much money was put into that site by venture capital firms? $45 million. And there's multiple theories as to why they bombed (I recommend listening to last week's This Week in Tech podcast to hear a few, it will come a little before the halfway point of the show). But when one of the women on the show said something about Reddit, I realized something. Fark and Reddit are doing the same damn thing, but in totally different ways. And at least until recently, both ways worked. It's all about preference and I prefer the Fark style over Reddit's. I'd rather take 100 chair shots to the head than look at Reddit's threaded comments for more than 10 minutes. Because the styles are so different, if I was Drew, Tony et al.; I wouldn't look at Reddit as competition. Fark's been around for what? 12 years? It's a system that's proven to work. Meanwhile, Reddit is just doing a better version of Digg, without the massive influx of money. |

Funny enough, I just went to Digg for the first time in 2 years. Their top stories have 3 comments. Some have 0. I did manage to find one with 12!
Fark is only worthwhile for the comments on the stories, since they greenlight things 2-4 days after they happened in many cases. Fark is usually late compared to Reddit, except when it comes to big, breaking stories. Reddit is much more superior when it comes to actual content, and it's infinitely configurable.

Digg fucked themselves because of the same politics that makes editing a wiki page with correct information absolutely fucking pointless unless you're blessed to be in certain circles because the shit will be reverted in minutes.. Circles and cliques are lame no matter the website. Everyone should be an equal in the end user crowd and there should never be lines connecting staff w/ end users.

yeah don't think so. No one is who they say they are anyway. Fark teaches me there are a LOT of people who sound insanely similar to eachother. Never ceased to amaze me that someone could come out with something like "Student Loans are equivalent to the slavery the blacks had in the cotton fields" and mean it as if it was their completely valid, non-insane argument.... then have people actually supporting it and saying "That's a GREAT analogy YEAH!" That's a different example. Farkers by and large are not at all tolerant of differing opinions and the discussions regularly become an echo chamber with Farkers repeating things they heard on Fark as if they were original thoughts. Kind of like the memes stolen from 4 chan Farkers always take credit for. |

I sort of doubt that Drew will be involved in day-to-day operations on Fark again. But I do suspect that he'll rein in his mods and admins a bit and force them to actively enforce the rules. So don't fuck up, Smiths. I should note that a week ago, when I emailed Drew about the bullshit with being threatened with a permanent ban for one complaint about GD, Drew replied back saying that "she's not being protected." Well, he was telling the truth. I'm 3 days from the end of my TF subscription. To be honest, if I didn't have to penny pinch a bit right now; I would be reconsidering my not renewing since it seems like Drew is trying to fix things. Ultimately, that's all we've been asking for- fix the problems. And a big problem has been fixed. |
