I've had this theory going for a while that Vince really was trying to make the WBF his true vision for what he calls "entertainment." Fixed bodybuilding competitions where a bunch of muscled up dudes pose, and then they were going to start "acting" in sketches so Vince could call it a "sports-based action-comedy-drama!"
He just didn't fully realize how much of a niche sport bodybuilding is, and how the best in the world make no money doing it. Jim Weider has owned the sport for decades and he's not going anywhere until he's cold in the ground. There was no way carnivalizing bodybuilding was going to have near the effect doing it to pro wrestling did.
WBF failed but Vince already knew way back in 1990 what he wanted to do, and today's Raw is exactly that. This is what he calls "entertainment." Just toss the whole wrestling thing into the can, this is it. This is Vince's circus. This is his way of "entertaining" people.
