Q: IIRC, the old 'expose the turnbuckle' trick was used a lot when I would watch WWF as a younger kid...especially in the attitude era. Now, however, I rarely see it happen. Was it safety issues that caused a move away from that, or something else?

I'm just thinking out loud here, as I've never seen this addressed anywhere or ever once had a conversation about it. I doubt that it's a safety issue. They still use the ringpost, stairs, chairs, etc. Just get a hand over it before the bump. Hell, TNA did the spot a few weeks ago with Bobby Roode pulling off the pad. I'd be prone to think it's just one of those things that faded away over the years, like getting color off the ringpost (AWA) or when nobody kicked out of a DDT or piledriver. Oh, wait. That's a different rant.
