The guy has mods he admits don't even bother to read the site. He has specifically said as much.
All the mods and admins do is hang out in TFD and talk/debate with their friends/enemies.

See, that's fuckin' stupid. It's not hard to say "hey, remember that whole thing involving GD? There was a guy that got banned from the site for it and didn't deserve it because he was right all along. Un-ban him right now."
Now, Tony and I are on good terms. I made him aware of the whole thing involving the hockey troll OL and I have not seen him post in quite a while so I think he's been banned. I could possibly call in a favor as were both soccer farkers, but if I remember correctly; the thing that set this whole mess off was Smiths calling out Tony so I don't think it would work.
So I don't know what to do exactly other than keep the pressure on Drew. Unless someone has a good idea.

The thing is, it really looks like Drew has lost control of FARK because he only has time enough to be the public face of it... while he's finishing up his degree and being a dad.
I sincerely doubt ALL the mods would quit; one or two might have a hissy fit and rage quit. Also, Drew definitely has a point about him having mods that never log in. The NaSkAr (may he rest in peace) is a moderator. The ones that are most likely to rage quit would be the ones that (we assume) were provided access to GD's pay site in exchange for keeping the haters off her ass.
Seriously, if the mods are so thin skinned that you managed to get under their skin, they need to be replaced anyway. Hell, Smiths - you and I used to go 'round and 'round about the flashing .GIF images. All it took was one conversation, like reasonable adults, for us to come to an understanding.

and i've had adult conversations with Drew I'd like to think.
so fucking odd this whole thing.
that whole conversation either reads as:
a) I'm never going to lift a finger on this and you're staying banned just accept it but I won't come out and say it
b) I have absolutely no control over my site anymore and don't want to piss those off that appear to be running it fine without me there
c) You and I have had good conversations and it's been very interesting but at the end of the day you will remain banned because I can't risk chumming the waters
There's just that part of me going "how the fuck did I piss them off so damn good?" since part of them kicking me off was they didn't like my "paranoia" or my "misconceptions" about the moderation.
All this does is go "hmm... I don't think his misconceptions were all that off in regards to specific moderators"
Next time you're bored and email Drew, feel free to send him the URL of this site. Point out to him that THIS is the result of moderator favoritism - all 9,667 posts since July 9th. Feel free to tell him that you and the founder of this place at one time were not at all on good terms... and all it took to fix that was having an actual email conversation. Maybe then he'll see that his moderators are picking his pocket due to the loss of page views.

the problem is even with the absense of the "folks on the couch" here, WWE threads are still bringing in a crapload (even if they're all just FNB headlines and cman/robsul/FNB talking).
there's no dent from this little forum. but it's a fun little place.
Well since all this crap exploded like a cherry bomb in a toilet bowl I simply no longer patronize FARK. I don't read it, I don't post there, I don't even have a bookmark for it these days... and I certainly do not recommend it to people anymore. FARK used to be my go-to place for news. Now, I go to the Google news feed for news, sports, technology, business and entertainment information. For politics, I have Facebook. I have discovered I don't need FARK. Which is a big admission for someone that used to read every damn article on every tab.

I reddit now but I actually don't read the news sub-reddits that often. My current favorite subreddit is "mildly interesting" cause that shit is funny. Otherwise I get my news from MSN cause I like my media nice a liberal TYVM. Facebook is getting a bit TOO political for my tastes these days. /On a side note I did run across GD in a reddit thread the other day. It was an ask reddit thread about what types of weird things you have encountered at work. Of course she has to start talking about stripping blah blah which draws attention to her gonewild threads and her floppy titties. The great thing about the threaded comments in reddit though is even if she hijacks a non-titty related thread you can just not read that branch. She simply cannot make the entire thread about herself because reddit does not work that way.

Try using the Hide function. Also organize your friends into lists. Put the dumbasses on one list, marked "Dumbasses" and their posts will gather there.

I knew this would result in Fark losing users altogether. I have been back to Fark maybe six times in the last two weeks. It's just not the same knowing you'll be booted for being in the wrong thread on the wrong day, and the mod's dog just crapped on his laundry or something.

Oh I use hide quite liberally, I have dropped one or two folks or their photos from my feed because I couldn't take the derp anymore. Right now my biggest problem is actually my best friend, whose views I agree with 100%, but I'm just sick of hearing it. I don't want to block him or hide his photos, because then I will miss all the pictures of his dogs and I adore those dogs (firstworldproblems). I find it is better for my mental health to avoid politics altogether whenever possible because it just angries up the blood, and that is the last thing I need, LOL.

Once you realize that there are really a handful of Farkers responsible for a huge chunk of the posts, either using their handle or their alts, you start to realize it's not what you originally thought. Then you start to notice that the most active posters, especially the mods, are only acknowledging those in their favorites list, meaning the whole site is exactly what they complained about the wrestling threads being.
This will sound harsh, but Farkers by and large come across like people trying to recreate the cool kids cliques online because they didn't get to be in those cliques in real life.

I posted a whole big long post last night which I then took down because it was whiny. But basically, I made the mistake of keeping my email notifications turned on and got to see more nastiness from a certain farker who will remain nameless. Needless to say I have turned my emails notifications off so curiosity will no longer get the best of me. I was really pissed though. sharktrager:

is that the e-mail if your name is mentioned? God that was like the ultimate in "oh boy who's talking about me?" that they then used as a bannable offense.
on one hand they were like "Paging Tatsuma" is okay.... but then they'd go "NO IT'S BANNABLE BECAUSE IT'S UNWANTED ATTENTION".
Yeah, although I had all the various email notifications turned on, that one in particularly is the one that got me last night since I had not said anything for anyone to replay to, nor was I watching any threads. I'll admit to being curious as to who was talking about me. It turned out to be just a gredunza winner list, but the whole "and I hope some of the people who left stay gone" comment that was tacked on the end really kind of pissed me off, which is of course I am sure what it was meant to do. So I turned all my email notifications off. Even if I wanted to post in Fark anymore, I wouldn't be able to because anywhere FNB found me he would make some kind of comment about why I wasn't hanging out in my little circle jerk club. He has already done it to me once when I stupidly posted in a brony thread, and he did it yesterday to Pi when he made a post in the wrestling thread. I haven't said two words to him since we had our blow up here a few months back, but he goes out of his way to harass me and mine if I dare appear in a Fark thread. I don't want to argue with him any more, I just want him to leave me alone. :-(

We know it is like that.I don't deny that. What irritates me is the condescension with which the dismissal is made. The deliberate picking of the wound. And the fact that the fark thread is and always has been an insular circle jerk as well, on a slightly larger scale, so there is the hypocrisy. The being nasty for no other reason than to be nasty. And he seems to have a hard on to harass me more than anyone else. Maybe I am just paranoid, but saying "and I hope they stay gone" seems to quite deliberately play into the fact that I said I was uncomfortable there now. (I don't know, does anyone else have any examples of FNB harassing them about the wrestling thing when posting about something completely unrelated on Fark?) To him, I am someone to be looked down upon because I don't hide the fact that I have *gasp* feelings.

Fark sucks. I figured that maybe the biggest gaffe Romney's made this whole campaign would make for some laugh-worthy threads, but no. Hubie and Weaver didn't even bother showing up for most, and if those guys aren't around, you know that Fark's issues aren't known only to us.

Okay, so I'm drunk right now. But I remember seeing BM in almost any thread I saw when I was surfing fark last night for show prep. Is there not a rule that forbids mod/mins for commenting in the threads they moderate?
Not for nothing, I still dig Fark. Obviously I'm not as active as I once was. A lot of my pals have come here. Am I, or are we turds for coming here? No. It's the goddamned internet. We can go to whatever site we want. Just like we can go to whatever bar we want or talk to whoever we want in a public gathering.

HBK and I got into it in the Penny-Arcade vs. Controller douche thing because all the bullied dorks were cheering this guy's explosion on the internet and subsequent harassment (which he did deserve), but not one of them could go "Well, Gabe's being kinda a dick too". Not to restart that argument, but yeah, Gabe can be kind of a dick. But he's only a dick to people who deserve it. Nobody egged that fucker on to start; he's the guy who started being a douche to customers when he thought it'd all stay private. The customer emailed Gabe about it, the guy got into it with Gabe, and yeah, Gabe did egg him on a bit after that, but again, he deserved it. And he also deserved to have his personal and professional reputation ruined. Christoforo was an asshole, period. Avenger Controller already had a few BBB complaints against them due to his assholery. |
