Y'all remember waaaaaay back in the early 90s? Sting vs Big Van Vader. Sting was the WCW champ. Vader entered the ring and proceeded to completely destroy sting. Instead of Sting overcoming the odds, he lost. Vader pinned him clean, 1-2-3.
I kinda miss days like that, when the hero could simply be overpowered and overwhelmed, leading to a loss.

So we went from "We're taking over," to "hired muscle" back to "We're taking over, even though we lose all our matches?"

I stopped caring halfway through. The wrestling was decent but felt like a house show. There hasn't been any significant booking progress made since maybe, I don't know, Bound For Glory?
I get that TNA is a little gun shy, considering how often they've hot-shotted things before, but to go from that to making little to no progress on their storylines is the worst of another extreme.

I agree. You don't want to pay off all your angles quickly all the time, but shows like this just feel like filler. The wrestling was decent though.

Missed the PPV live thanks to work and the Packers. Finally sitting down to watch. I've got vodak and mixin's so here goes.
- I hate the inside Jeff's head gimmick. - I like Storm. Reminds me of Austin Lol @ "up his butt" chant. Crowd's hot. Love Kaz's psychology with the crowd. There's a reason why this shit works. The exchange seems organic and natural. - They need more room between the ring and the barriers. They don't have to worry about squeezing every ticket out of the room in Orlando. - Fun opener. Uh-oh... beer spray. Cleanup at ringside. Hate it when that shit gets on the canvas. - BTW, I plan on watching the matches in full. I reserve the right to skip video packages. - OMFG! Mentioning other companies! Nice commentary about Kenny looking up to RVD. Nice backstory. - As they were talking about The Sheik, I found myself looking for a pencil. - Fine with the finish not being a finisher. Decent little match. Getting the Direct Impact in early tonight, aren't we? - Sometimes Borash reminds me of Chet Kopic. - Effective promo from Daniels. - Taglines. Nice way to sum up a program without a 27 minute recap package. - Sticky note for research: A lot of TNA's entrance music sounds like the production libraries we use for mx for spots. I know they have their own guy. I wonder if he does that as well. - Nice delayed vertical suplex. - Crowd's gonna get blown up unless they're passing out blow in the Impact Zone. - New guy and Tenay's voices sound too much alike in vocal timbre. - There must be some kind of forcefield in that ring... When Morgan gets in, he does the Andre over the top rope. When he exits, he usually goes between the middle and top. - Obviously, this feud will continue. - AA backstage promo. Nice flow to the show so far.
I'll take this time to reinforce the old adage of a wrestler's gimmick having a place in their own personality cranked up to 11. This is why AA and Bully work. It isn't manufactured bullshit.
- AA grabbing Bully's gimmick: "I know he's gonna cheat!" lol - Loved the selling of the missile drop kick. - Loved the rope break after the cutter. - Bully going under the apron for his color? Yuuup. - Finish? Meh. Cage match blowoff at Lockdown? Yuuup. - Tara: "Rats with wings..." I didn't know it was that time of the month... - Decent match with Tara and Arby's. Bring the people up, bring 'em down. - Roode promo time. OMFG BULLSHIT! - Skipping video package. - 8-man time. - Can we please stop the gimmick where they pan in and out with bumps? I think that causes more seizures than strobe lights. - I can't bitch about the 8-man. Yeah, A/8's lose again, but they still have their heat. - AJ promo time. Really nice video package. - I just no-sold the goddamned barstool that tried to jump in front of me on my way back from the can. - Styles/Daniels: 115 matches. I fucking love kayfabe stats with a hint of shoot. - Suplex on the apron: ouchouchouchouch - Fan after the spot on the steps at Daniels: "fuck you." - Nice submission sequence by the ropes. - AJ hardways himself with the headbutt spot. - Good job from Taz selling the superplex. - Okay... I know what the finish is. AJ just hit the Styles Clash. Nice job on the announce crew selling the time it took AJ to roll Daniels over for the cover. - Main time. Jeff brought the Budokan crowd. Does the guy that beats him eventually get the Glory Hole Belt too? - I like JB's formal intro. But, Roode at 238 and Hardy at 215? Must be the gimmicks in Jeff's ears adding that weight... - The soles on Brian Hebner's shoes always match the ropes. It's also in the Hebner DNA to swipe the counting arm on a false finish. - The finish with Roode & A/8's shows that they're in it for themselves. Roode pays them off and they say "fuck you." If it lasted any longer without a TNA roster run-in it would've been stupid.
Decent show. Not mind-blowing, but solid. I'd give it 3.75 out of 5 stars. I think I see who's gonna be married for a while. They have live TV on 01/03/13, 01/10 and 01/17 and Genesis on 01/13. Tapings were Monday and tonight for the rest of December. No February PPV and Lockdown on 03/10, five days before I hit 40 so those motherfuckers better deliver.
/Pick up your beer cans and don't poop where you shouldn't and I won't yell at youse to get off my lawn. //BTW, not a single ref bump on the show. Nor were there any ref shenanigans outside of basic heat. I'm okay with that.
